Objectives

To train graduate students in the fields of nanotechnology and biopharmaceuticals aimed at obtaining innovative biological medicines. Apart from that, this course aims at expanding scientific knowledge and technical procedures for the application of nanobiotechnology and recombinant protein production processes.

 

Background

The fields of nanotechnology and biotechnology have grown every year with great impact on various sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, materials, energy, among others. The biopharmaceuticals or also called biologic drugs are revolutionizing the treatment of various diseases and interesting industry for this type of product have grown not only globally but also nationally. However, challenges still need to be overcome such as production scheduling, as delivery of these medicines controls, specific and efficiently; Besides increasing the stability of these molecules in the body since they undergo rapid degradation in biological systems.

In this context, nanotechnology can help in the implementation of these challenges, by encapsulating biopharmaceuticals in nanocarriers. The drug encapsulation in nanocarriers may increase its stability, extend his stay in the bloodstream, sustain the drug release, target the drug into tissues or cells, among others. Therefore, nanotechnology has revolutionized the obtainment of more effective drugs for several diseases. Because of the great importance of nanotechnology and biotechnology and the growing interest from the industrial sector, in particular the pharmaceutical, it is crucial the training of graduate students in these areas to the development of innovative products.

Registration

Deadline: 2nd , October, 2015

Duration: 80 hours

Requirements

1) Graduation in Pharmacy, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemistry Engineering;

2) Show previous experience in nanotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry and bioprocesses;

3) Be part of research group in the field of the present course.

4) Submit an abstract of his/her research work.
