The scope includes the study of protection against environmental pollution and the preservation of skin microbiota, alongside the search for new compounds with antioxidant and photoprotective potential, using in vitro assays in monolayer cell cultures and different reconstructed human skin models.

Email: vbentley@usp.br  Nanotechnology and Gene Therapy in Skin Disorders (NanoGeneSKin): Research group focused on formulations based on liquid crystals and other lipid nanoparticles as a delivery system to enables therapies with biopharmaceuticals and genes for a wide range of diseases. In the area of Gene Therapy, the research group is developing nanoparticles for application to the skin containing siRNA and miRNA, aiming to treat diseases such as psoriasis, vitiligo, skin cancer, leprosy, among others. Following research in the area of gene vaccines, we are developing nanoparticles for the nasal delivery of mRNA-based vaccines.

Email: pmcampos@usp.br  Center of Advanced Studies in Cosmetic Technology (NEATEC): The research group focuses on formulation development alongside developing evaluation methods aimed at obtaining innovative, safe, and proven effective cosmetic and dermocosmetic formulations. The formulations are developed using raw materials obtained through sustainable processes, of natural origin, and from Brazilian biodiversity. The methods for evaluating the clinical efficacy of the developed formulations involve advanced biophysical techniques and image analysis, which allow the skin evaluation in a non-invasive way and real-time skin. These techniques are also applied in studies of skin and hair knowledge.

Email: pmarcato@fcfrp.usp.br  The Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Nanobiotechnology Group (GNanoBio): is dedicated to innovative research in nanotechnology aimed at enhancing the therapeutic potential of drugs and natural products. Our focus centers on the development, optimization, and characterization of biodegradable polymeric and lipid nanoparticles for encapsulating or co-encapsulating molecules with anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiviral properties. We aim to comprehend the mechanisms of action of both free and nanoencapsulated natural and synthetic products through in vitro and alternative biological assays. Additionally, our group is involved in the development of nanostructured natural cosmetic formulations and the preparation and characterization of metallic nanoparticles with potential applications in the pharmaceutical field.

Email: wpoliv@fcfrp.usp.br  Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Processes (LAPROFAR): The LAPROFAR Group’s research lines focus on innovative technologies for drying, agglomerating, and encapsulating pharmaceutical and biological products. The Group expertise lies in coating processes for pharmaceutical forms in suspended state (fluidized and spouted beds), micro and nanoencapsulation of pharmaceutical actives, volatile oils, and plant extracts, drying of proteins and enzymes, and phytopharmaceutical technology. The research team places particular emphasis on the development and standardisation of herbal medicines, the evaluation of the stability and biological activity of fluid and dry extracts of medicinal and aromatic plants, and the production of nanofibres by electrospinning for pharmaceutical applications.
